Building a High School Credit - Latin
Latin
Students seeking high school credit for Latin are required to build a portfolio which clearly documents their progress towards and successful completion of all five language goals as outlined by the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning: communication, culture, connections, comparisons, and communities.
* This checklist is designed for students enrolled in Latin courses at EHRC.
- Communication
- Goals are met by successfully completing course requirements (see course syllabus).
- No additional study is required.
- Culture
- Latin courses do not provide in-depth study.
- Homeschool study is required.
- Connections
- Latin courses provides some study in this area.
- Supplemental homeschool study is required.
- Comparisons
- Goals are met by successfully completing course requirements (see course syllabus).
- No additional study is required.
- Communities
- Latin courses do not provide in-depth study.
- Homeschool study is required.
Time Management/Guidelines
- Latin classes meet 2 days per week for 1 hour each day.
- Expect 2-3 hours of assigned homework each week for the Latin course
- Budget approximately 1 hour additional time per week for independent homeschool studies.
High School Credit Proposal/Contract
- Using the appropriate Latin course syllabus, input course goals, campus activities, homeschool activities, resources, and progress indicators into the online credit proposal through your SLP.
- Using the document, Standards for Classical Language Learning, design the homeschool course of study to fulfill the required homeschool components. Input goals, campus activities, homeschool activities, resources, and progress indicators into the online credit proposal through your SLP.

* For Latin II and III goals, refer to the second column, Intermediate – Levels II & III.
* For Latin IV (AP) goals, refer to the third column, Advanced – Level IV & AP.
