Our code of conduct provides the basis for how we live together at Edmonds Heights K-12. All students, parents, and community members share in these three guidelines. Being safe means not being a danger to self or others. It also means that we and others are able to focus on learning without the distraction of worrying about how others will treat us. Being respectful means that we treat all others the way they would like to be treated. Finally, our purpose is to enhance the learning opportunities for students, and all our behavior on campus should support this. Sometimes this looks like safe, respectful socializing, and other times like students engaged in learning around specific content areas.

There are several opportunities available to share and receive information.
o    Flyers around campus.  Must be approved in the office and must be posted on bulletin boards only.

Our Edmonds Heights K-12 webpage has several areas for information. Please go over it, as you will find a calendar, new information about upcoming events, Department pages, and an area for you to submit information and even participate in a forum.  All you have to do is scroll down to the bottom left hand corner of the Home page and register to have your own account in to the page.

o    Any parent or student who may have a concern or problem with another student or parent is welcome to talk with Danny or the office about the situation and they will help mediate the problem for you.  You can also find another school district staff person who can help you. 
o    All school district rules apply--no weapons etc..

The office has a letter that you may pick up that we assist you in receiving an educators discount (as primary educator of your student) at various businesses.

Once a month we run an emergency drill to help prepare our community, and campus, in the event of an actual emergency. There are four types of drills: Fire, Lockdown (intruder), Shelter in Place (toxic chemicals in the air), and Earthquake. Six of the drills are fire drills and during fire drills our community gathers outside on the baseball field in classes or together. If you have a child with sensitivities to a drill environment let the office know and we will provide you warning before a drill starts.

When students have gaps in their schedule they should be focused on learning activities. They can do so in the library, computer labs, individual teacher rooms (with teacher permission), and other spots on campus for studying or engaging in learning. While we support students in their social development, it should not be the primary activity of a student while on campus. Also, students should not be on campus for extended periods of time without a class to attend. In this case, students should be home or wherever their parent directs them to be.

Leadership Council comprised of parents, staff and principal, everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend, Thursdays, 12:00pm-1:30pm.

o    Our Leadership Council directs the mission and vision of our partnership. It also fills an important role in this partnership’s information chain. Most major changes, decisions and/or possibilities are brought up and discussed with this group. All segments of our community have elected representatives involved in this group and you are welcome to be involved in this process. We welcome and encourage everyone to come and share your ideas, comments and/or concerns with this vital group on Thursdays from 12:00pm -1:30pm.

o    Located is in the lunchroom, on the eastern wall. There is a box and a hanging rack.
o    If you have valuables that have been found, they will be in the front office, for example, cell phones, watches, glasses, etc..

Our self supervision policy is that all students who are 11 years old or younger must have their primary educator (parent) on campus with them at all times. In rare circumstances a parent may ask another family member or adult to supervise their child while they deal with an emergent situation, but this is not be a regular situation. Students older than 11 may be on campus without a parent as long as they follow the Code of Conduct. If a student is not being safe, respectful, or engaged in learning activities while on campus then a staff member or the principal will work with the student and parent to come up with a different arrangement for learning.

There are two different kinds of WSLP meetings. One kind of meeting is our ‘Face-to-Face’ meetings that happen three times a year. These meetings are mandatory meetings with your WSLP advisor and are scheduled through Vesta. During ‘Face-to-Face’ weeks classes taught by WSLP advisors are not in session, but all Workshop Instructor classes still run. The second type of WSLP meetings are those initiated by families with questions for their WSLP advisor. These meetings take place during a teacher’s WSLP time on their schedule, which is viewable through Vesta on the teacher's schedule. These meetings are either scheduled with the teacher directly or through Vesta. Same day meetings are best scheduled with the teacher.

The Edmonds Heights lunch hour is from 12-1pm. During lunch we have an open campus, so students are free to come and go as their parent expectations allow. We serve a hot lunch from 12:10-12:45pm in the commons and families are expected to clean up after themselves. We share the lunchroom with Scriber and until 12:10 Scriber students will be using the lunchroom for their hot lunch. There are paper towels and cleaning bottles by the microwaves in the commons. The G building, or teaching wing, should not be used for lunch because of cleaning issues. Occasionally, the gym is open during lunch for students and parents to get some exercise.

The ASB (Associated Student Body/Student Leadership) is a group of students who have decided they would like to organize themselves, fundraise, and spend money for the benefit of Edmonds Heights students. Each fall students who are interested, between grades 7-12, decide what role in ASB they will fill. We have a President, 2 VPs, Secretary, and Treasurer. Anyone else wanting to serve is also welcome. High school students can include ASB work in credits they are working on. Students who want to participate sign up for the class ‘Student Leadership’ through Vesta.

In the event of a snow/weather delay Edmonds Heights will follow district guidelines. Our official start time as a school is 9am, so a 2 hour delay as reported in the news means classes will start at 11am. Teachers and staff will be at work at normal times (assuming safe travel options). Please go the district webpage (www.edmonds.wednet.edu) or www.schoolreport.org for updated information about school closures, as well as local radio and television broadcasts.

Tech equipment check-out is for WSLP related projects only and must be documented in the WSLP. See tech support staff in one of the computer labs for help.

o    IPC (Interactive Project Cooperative, aka – Lego Lab)
    Hours: Varies daily. See posted schedule outside the classroom.

o    TLC (Technology Leaning Center, aka – PC Lab)
    Hours: 9:00am – 4:30pm

o    VET (Visual Education through Technology, aka – Mac Lab)
    Hours: 9:00am – 4:30pm

o    Laptops must be used for school business. Any student or parent using laptops inappropriately will lose their laptop privileges and may need to talk with Danny.  
o   Outside wireless devices may access the internet through the guest wireless account. Use of these devices should be appropriate for a K-12 environment.

There is a copy machine in the PVC for you to use for student educational purposes only.  Please bring your own paper and we limit every use to 50 copies maximum.

We have printers in our different computer labs available for use.  They can only be used for educational activities.  Please do not print personal e-mails, web searches or use for any personal business.

Campus boundaries for Edmonds Heights K-12 are as follows: Edmonds Heights K-12 students and parents have access to the Gym, all fields, Commons, Auditorium, Library, Portables, G building, the field next to the Gym after 1pm, and offices. Only with permission should students or parents enter staff lounge and staff mail/copy room.

Out of Bounds for students include: Trails in the woods (must be with teacher and/or parents), F building, Other program areas (VOICE, Scriber, Indian Ed, Work Adjustment, F building), and PARKING LOTS.

The staircase to the bus stop is OK but is not a hang out space. Students should go around the gym to and from the staircase. The staircase is for entering and exiting the campus only.

The Tennis courts are OK only with a teacher present because they are a shared use space, along with the Gym, with Scriber.

Students should be off campus at the end of their last class, and not hanging out otherwise. The G building is closed most weeks by 5pm, and by 4pm on occasional weeks (with professional development Fridays). Students should never prop open doors after school hours as we have had several break-ins with thousands of dollars worth of technology stolen as a result.

o    Hours: 8:30am-4:00pm
o    Hot lunch served from 12:05-12:25. Free and reduced lunches available for qualified families, forms can be picked up in main office or from Food Service employees.
o    Fridges & Microwaves are there for families to use.
o    Lost & found items like coats, backpacks, etc., will be placed in the commons area. The lost & found for small items like keys and jewelry is located in the main office.
o    Paper towels and cleaner are provided to help us all clean up after ourselves.
o    When leaving items in the commons, please be aware that it is not a secure area.

The gym is managed by our PE teacher. When they are in the gym students and parents may ask what is available to use. During class time in the gym our teacher is focused on teaching and parents and students should wait until class is over. During lunch parents can supervise student activities. Equipment will be available  for student use during some lunch hours, but all equipment should be returned when finished. Students should not climb on the bleachers, throw balls at each other’s heads, cross over to the other side of the gym (it belongs to Scriber), or jump off the bleachers onto the mats. Also, during lunchtime students should not use the bathrooms as this is when Scriber eats lunch in the gym hallway.

o    Study area, quiet but not silent
o    Variety of books, educational CDs, and movies

o    Available to all enrolled families.  Go to front office to get a locker and combination.
o    One locker per family, due to limited number of lockers.
o    No permanent additions should be added to lockers, including writing on lockers.

o    Load/unload zones are the safest place to drop students off. Please do not allow younger students to enter campus by themselves from the parking lot.
o    Please don't park in the handicap zone unless you have a sticker- handicap compliance ($500 fine)
o    Staff lot is for staff only.
o    Please prevent our students from playing games in the parking lot.

    We have a dedicated office for our volunteers and  parents to use in supporting their students or our various programs.  The workroom is is located in the main hallway and includes a copier, computer, two refridgerators, a coffee maker, office supplies, a sink, and room to assemble and create work for your students. Parents supply their own paper for the copier but all else is covered.

Next to the parent work room is a parent lounge open to all parents as a place to connect, volunteer for various activities around the school, and view other resources available to parents for their student's learning.

o    We are one of several programs on this campus that serve students and families.
o    Because we share our campus, it is important that we be respectful of the other programs. We ask that outside play is done away from the VOICE program until 1pm and not in the parking lot areas. The VOICE program is located in the small building to the north of the staff parking lot.
o    Our campus is also used by our surrounding community. Community sports teams use the ball field and gym during after school hours and the field/track area is used by the surrounding community throughout the day.
o    Students should be supervised at all times.
