Leadership Council Meeting – Wednesday, January 6, 2010 Regular Meeting EHRC Classroom 1 Present: Jan S., Cheryl G., Danny R., Rebecca M., Amy B., Cindy B., Tammy J., Kate G. Absent: Trish R., Diane S., Kate S. Community: Janet Spesock.
Start: 12:10pm
Danny brought meeting to order.
Community Forum: Community forum cancelled due to no sound system set up.
Suggestions for community forum topic: Organizing volunteers for spring events e.g. student showcase (formerly art gala), field day, etc.
Field Day ideas: Rebecca: Water fight with buckets, cups, hose – out in the field. No super soakers. Needs an adult male to help coordinate.
Community Feedback: Could there be an intercom announcement throughout the month about the sleeping bag/coat drive? Danny – yes.
Approval of minutes from last 2 LC meetings. MOTION: To approve minutes of 12/09 and 12/16. Rebecca moved, Amy seconded. Carried unanimously.
$1,000 supplemental funds request to buy books for the library. Danny showed Council the books/book series – most are nonfiction at the elementary and middle school level – some will complete series already started in the library.
Tammy moved, Cindy seconded. Carried unanimously.
Principal’s Report: Enrollment: January’s enrollment count of 463 brings the monthly average for this school year to 456 FTE. This number determines the rest of this year’s spending capacity. Danny has adjusted non-employee related costs accordingly and will let us know the implications.
Yesterday was the first school tour of 2010 and today is the start of the first Getting Started orientation of the year.
More class offerings 2nd semester: Krista will be offering more Spanish classes at the high school and elementary level. Scott will have more PE and elective classes, and will be taking over more SLP work. Melissa is half time reviewing SLPs, and will be team teaching a class with Nancy.
Facility Renovation update: The commons repainting is finished and has met with good feedback from the community. The next issue for that room is heat. The library classroom 1, parent volunteer room and the hallway are next to be repainted.
Student awards ceremony January 28th 1pm: The ceremony celebrates students who have won something from an external source.
Guest speaker January 7th 12-1pm in the library: Medical philanthropist Kris Repp will be speaking during lunch.
New database update: The work continues.
Parent Partnered Program Conference: March 19th Danny is still looking for presentation topics and we still need a keynote speaker. The keynote is 30 minutes during lunch for 50-200 people involved in parent partnered programs. The budget for speakers could come from several sources including supplemental funds so we have funds to get someone.
Suggestion for keynote speaker: David Guterson, author of Family Matters: Why Homeschooling Makes Sense and Snow Falling on Cedars. David is a retired high school teacher who homeschooled his 3 children. He lives in Bainbridge. Jan and Janet Spesock will contact him.
Danny indicated there is interest gathering from other programs as the word gets out.
Presentation suggestions:
- A presentation to teenage girls on discovering what they would like to do.
- Cindy B would like to offer 2 presentations for parents, one on motivating young writers ages 6-12, one on the creative writing process to product for young writers ages 6-12.
- Martha Miller – using math manipulatives.
Danny will be soliciting staff presentations as well.
2nd semester registration ends today!
Registrar leave update: Julie Lohr has extended her leave until March 1. Sherrill Lamb has agreed to move back into the registrar’s position and Cindy Wills will sub for Sherrill as secretary.
