Leadership Council
Wednesday, June 09, 2010

Attendees: Maggie, Rebecca, Amy, Danny, Tammy, Diane

Community Attendees: Asma, Kim, Aaron

Community Feedback:

Asma and Kim both shared positive feedback on using the new Vesta system for class registrations. Asma commented on the ease in which she was able to register her nephew as a member of her family; Kim found that the system handled a complex registration issue for her daughter in a transparent and helpful way. The council expressed thanks and appreciation to the data base team for its hard work and ongoing efforts to make our first VESTA experience a rousing success.

LC Minutes:

The minutes for the June 02 meeting are currently being approved online and will be posted as soon as possible. Diane volunteered to take minutes for today’s meeting.

Field Day Evaluation:

The event was generally considered to be a success.  Particularly noteworthy were the diverse activities, cotton candy, face painting, multiple inflatables, tables on the lawns, portable office and the overall sense of organization.  Areas for improvement include the process for ordering and serving lunch, and the recruitment of parent volunteers. In order to strengthen the recruiting efforts and provide more overall coordination of the event, Amy and Kim volunteered to serve as co-coordinators for next year’s Field Day. With Asma, Tammy and Rebecca, as well as any other interested volunteers, they will serve as an interface between the various groups who help to plan and implement Field Day as follows:

ASB – provides funding, decides on what to buy, plans activities.

Staff – works 2 hour shifts, supports the event in accordance with their roles.

LC – encourages, communicates, removes obstacles, and where possible, makes Supplemental Funds          available.

Registration/VESTA:

Class registration is proceeding smoothly. During June and July, the team’s focus will shift to the WSLP and budgeting processes as they work toward August deadlines. Parents can expect more information in August about walk-throughs and trainings for these new elements of VESTA.

Remaining Agenda Items for June Meetings:

At the June 16 meeting, the LC will set dates for community events for the 2010-11 school year, discuss the current status of the ALE legislation and hear of Danny’s visit with Rep. Kagi as well as a suggested action plan for families who want to make their voices heard. In addition, we will celebrate and thank the outgoing members of the LC – Tammy, Janet, Heather and Cindy.
